In Loving memory of Maria Luisa Candelas "Mery". May 5, 1964 -June 12, 2025.
Maria Luisa Candelas, age 61 was called to heaven on June 12, 2025, surrounded by all her loved ones in the comfort of her own home.
A mother to all with a pure heart, loving hugs and a warm presence. A crimson heart fueled by the love for her birthplace of Guatemala deeply rooted her in family.
Maria was born on May 5, 1964, in Guatemala City, Guatemala to loving parents, Jose Rolando Montoya and Sonia Elizabeth Escobar.
Mery is survived by her "Hunny", Devoted and Loving Husband Benito Candelas. Her adored children and grandchildren:

Mery loved to spend time with her family, dance, tend her garden while feeling the breeze on her home deck. Mery was a lover of the ocean, nature, different cultures and history. Mery carried the soul of a warrior. She was courageous and graceful throughout her own difficult trials. She remained a pillar of strength, uplifting and caring for others even as she quietly endured her own tribulations. She fought with unyielding spirit and love.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday June 18,2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at M. Martinez Funeral Home, 5800 W. 63rd St., Chicago, IL.
Mery asked for all of us to wear White and Pink.
A solemn funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 8:30 A.M. in the M. Martinez Funeral Home, followed by a Mass at St. Bede the Venerable at 10:00 A.M. 8200 South Kostner Avenue, Chicago, IL 60652.
Mery will be laid to rest at Resurrection, 7201 Archer Rd, Justice, IL 60458.
