Pedro Jose
Reyes Romero
Nov 13, 1926 — Aug 29, 2026
Pedro Jose Reyes Romero,
Pedro “Perico” Reyes, a man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love for his family, passed away at the age of 99—just two months short of a full century of life.
Born in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, Pedro took a courageous leap as a young man, leaving his homeland to seek opportunity in the United States for the betterment of his family. He found work in the steel mills of Chicago’s South Side, where his hard work, reliability, and steadfast character earned him the deep respect of his employers. In recognition of his dedication, he was sponsored for permanent residency and later brought his family to join him, building a new life rooted in perseverance and hope.
Together with his beloved wife, Aurora Reyes, Pedro raised eight children and was blessed with 59 grandchildren. He nurtured a beautiful, close-knit family in Chicago, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and mutual support. When the time came for the next generation to establish families of their own, Pedro chose to return to his hometown of Tlacotalpan, Veracruz. Even in retirement, his industrious spirit never rested. Well into his late 90s, he continued working the land—raising cattle and managing his ranch with the same determination that had defined his years in the mills.
Those who knew him will forever remember Pedro’s practical ingenuity and relentless resolve. If something was broken, he fixed it. If something was needed, he would not rest until it was obtained or completed. In Tlacotalpan he was held in the highest regard—treated with the warmth and admiration reserved for a local celebrity—yet he remained humble, grounded, and always ready to help.
Pedro’s life was a testament to sacrifice, resilience, and the quiet power of showing up every day for the people he loved. He leaves behind a large and loving family who will carry forward his example, and a community that will long remember the man who never stopped giving of himself.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
